Russia in World War II
Torched Earth
After being betrayed by the germans by them breaking the "peace" treaty between the nations, Russia was invaded by the German third Reich. For the first three years of the war, German troops lead a unstoppable blitzkrieg into the Ukraine and Belarus. The plan set in motion by Stalin was operation "Scorched Earth" in which retreating Soviet troops would burn and destroy the country side as to not let the invaders live off teh land and advance at even a greater pace. Finally once the germans were outside Moscow, the Russia's unleashed a counter attack, taht combined with the harsh winter quickly arriving drove the germans back. Then to finish the job as entire german army froze at Stalingrad, marking the end of the Russian retreat and the start of the Russian advance.
Post Stalingrad
Even though the blitzkrieg had been curbed, the Red army still had alot of fighting ahead of them. Stalin urged his allies the British and the Americans to open a new front to relieve some of the pressure. The landing at Normandy may of never occured if Stalin had no forced the west to rethink its Italian advance plan. Eventually the Red army push thorugh and reclaimed its lost land. IT was the Russian who attacked Berlin and finally caused the Germans to capitulate.
