Communism for all or death
Post World War II
After the second world war, The Soviet Union emerged as one of two global superpowers in the world. Still under the iron fist of Joseph Stalin, Russia too control of most of eastern Europe and created the Warsaw pact to be used as a buffer zone for further european invasion. Also in retaliation to the marshall plan, the soviets made the molotov plan to send aid to war torn Europe. In 1948 the soviets successfully tested their first atomic bomb and became a nuclear power.
Korea to collapse
War between communism and the west soon broke out in Asia. Back by The Soviet Union, North Korea invaded South Korea. Then however UN forces arrived and fought back up to the China border, where chinese forces attacked and returned to the stalemate at the beginning of the war. During the last years of the was Stalin died and a council of Bureacrats took power. While leadership changed, the goals of the super power did not. Howver Russia opposed the people's revolution in China becasue Marx taught that an un-industrialized nation like China could overpower its upperclass. Taking sides continued after Korea between the United States and Soviet Union in the middle east, such as Israel and the Arabs, and in southern Asia. While the United States had a bloody war in Vietnam, the Soviets mirrored the conflict with one of their own in Afganistan. The fall of a communist party in Afganistan by Islamic nationalists caused the Soviets to invade and american weapons to the nationalists made them stay. This drain on the military coupled with the looser rulings of Soviet leader Gorbachev caused much unrest in many of the soviet satellite states. Finally in 1991 Boris Yeltstien took power and the Union finally collapsed. Elections were held in all the countries in the union but without Soviets control of the polls and all communist parties were voted out.
Post Soviets
After the collapse, Russia become the obvious successor state to teh Union on the UN secturity council. The main challenge to the new republic was the need to reform both its political instutions and its economy. The reforms to capitalism created a slump in the standard of living for the people in Russia. This caused agitation to be vented politically and beginnings of new communist parties took shape. Soon a province south of Moscow tired to force independence thus creating teh First Chechen War. Again a Vietnam like quagmire was created for the nation. Eventually the rebellion was put down. Then after financial collaspse in 1998, Russia was able to quickly recover due to an increase in oil prices. A crisis of succession in 2000 caused the second Chechen war, the outcome putting Putin at the head of Russia. Under Putin Russia has become even more economically and politically stable. Internationally during this time, Russia has slowly become more friendly towards the west, and under Putin as established closer connections with the People's Republic of China.
