Renaissance in Russia, 1400-1740
1400-15001. Ivan the Great rises to power and begins to talk of increasing the size of Russia (at this time contained to a little fortification in Moscow)
2.Land around Moscow grows, prompting the Mongols to once again focus on Russia. However this time, the Mongols will not invade their own territory, they just need to maintain control over it. 3. Mongols kicked out of Russia after several centuries of ruling 4. Expansion of territory that is today called Russia 5. Stalemate battle between Russian and Mongol forces, but battle never happened because both sides feared an attack, so they both withdrew troops due to information misinterpretation 6. Acclamation of Lithuania after a carefully planned attack on the neighboring territory. 7. Orthodox Church begins to spread and converts to the Eastern Orthodox religion begin to increase 8. Livonian War, in which Novgorod is taken, giving Russia access into Finland and the Baltic Sea (and then has to give it all back when Russia looses the 25 year war) *The First video below is on Ivan the Terrible, also called Ivan the Great* | 1500-16501. Time of trying to catch up to the West following a long period of isolation and oppression by the Mongols and then the Ottomans.
2. Period of Economic Growth 3. | 1650-1740 1. The Russian style of Ballet began 4 May, 1738 when Anna, Empress of Russia, founded the Imperial Theatre School. The idea for the style of dance was originally French based, but has become popular, even in today’s world, for it’s Russian style.
